A City Transformed: Images of Istanbul Then and Now gives North American audiences unprecedented access to the private collection of Turkish art philanthropist Ömer M. Koç. Nearly 70 photographs, albums, and panoramas from Koç's collection present the architecture, monuments, and people of this historic city from the 1850s to early 1900s. New photographs and digital animations by acclaimed Turkish artist Murat Germen offer startling contrasts in era, scale, and scope. Germen's dazzling cityscapes convey the heady pace — and price — of urban development in a city long revered for its historic character. A City Transformed will be a Primary Exhibition in this year's Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.

The year 2016 marks 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare. To honour this milestone, the Fisher Library is holding an exhibition that explores the rich printed history of Shakespeare, and features the only Canadian-held copy of the celebrated 1623 First Folio on display. With almost 60 books on display - running chronologically from 1548 to 2010 - the exhibition features early source material such as Holinshed's Chronicles (1587) and Plutarch's Lives (1579) along with a range of Renaissance genres and forms, from maps to bibles to works of poetry, anatomy and heraldry. Later editions of Shakespeare and experiments with his works will also be prominently featured in the exhibition and accompanying catalogue.

Documenting American life in all its startling complexity and diversity, the photographers and filmmakers featured in the AGO's latest exhibition present compelling images of individuals and communities on the perceived margins of society. Featuring over 200 works, the exhibition includes photographs by Diane Arbus, Garry Winogrand, Danny Lyon, Nan Goldin, the anonymous visitors of Casa Susanna and experimental films by Kenneth Anger, Marie Menken, Shirley Clarke, Robert Frank and Alfred Leslie. These images portray musicians, protesters, cross-dressers, bike gangs, politicians and socialites, individuals both at odds and united, against a backdrop of rapid social change.
