Position Overview

To identify, train and support a dynamic team of volunteers who will improve the quality of the volunteer experience through creating a better support process for volunteers already working in their roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop a strategy to touch base with volunteers currently in their roles on a regular basis
  • Call these volunteers on a monthly basis
  • Enter volunteer comments on database
  • Track progress and recommend strategies to improve process, procedure and quality of volunteer working experience

Support:

Program Developer and Mentor

Position Overview

To identify, train and support a dynamic volunteer(s) who will improve the quality of the volunteer experience by creating a strategy for interested volunteer prospects after the initial interview to keep them engaged before being placed in the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop a program strategy which will engage volunteer prospects after their interview and before they begin their volunteering.
  • May recruit an additional volunteer to assist and work as a team.
  • Create a yearly schedule for prospective volunteers, which can be posted on Circle of Care website.
  • Track progress and provide suggestions to improve process, procedure and quality of volunteer working experience

Support:

will be provided on an as needed basis

Commitment:

6 Months to1 year

Position Overview

Board volunteers strive to ensure NEW's success through oversight of strategic planning, finance, audit, programs, fundraising, marketing, and governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determining NEW's mission, purpose, strategy and policies
  • Reviewing and authorizing plans and commitments
  • Being accountable to funders and public
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, legal and contract requirements
  • Ensuiring sufficient operational resources
  • Recruiting, hiring, guiding and evaluating Executive Director's performance

SPRINT Senior Care: Friendly Caller

Position Overview

Friendly callers provide regular telephone calls for the purpose of developing a telephone friendship andd furnishing a security check to isolated seniors who have limited social networks of family, friends and neighbours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain independent community living
  • To establish regular days and times to telephone the client which are mutually convenient
  • To maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • To report total number of telephone calls at the end of each month to Volunteer Coordinator for statistical purposes.

Commitment:

6 months, flexible.

Amount of Time:

Depending on client's request for service some calls may be required daily, and some clients request weekly calls. Length of conversation to be determined between volunteer and client.

SPRINT Senior Care: Adult Day Services Volunteer

Program Overview

The Adult Day Services provides therapeutic, social and recreational programs for older adults who may be frail and or have a cognitive impairment such as dementia. It also provides respite and support for caregivers.

Position Overview

The volunteer works directly with program staff to provide a holistic approach in delivering meaningful activities for a diverse population. The volunteers assist program staff by socializing with clients and help facilitate program activities. The volunteer is supportive in fostering the maintenance of a clients abilities and, where appropriate, the enhancement of those abilities through the organization of activities that are designed to stimulate and respond to the clients individual interests.

Health & Safety/Risk Management

Each individual is responsible for his/her own safety as well as that of fellow employees and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to learn and increase knowledge about dementia
  • Willingness and ability to assist older adults with cognitive impairement
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • Interact, engage and socialize with clients
  • Under staff direction, may assist serving meals and snacks
  • Assist in physical set-up of the room and keeping program area tidy

Commitment:

4 months, flexible.

Amount of Time:

Programs run: Monday-Saturday 9:30am-3:00pm and Tuesday, Wednesday 2:00pm-7:30pm

Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in a group setting and in working with cognitively impaired seniors
  • Ability to focus on the needs of an elderly person or individual with disabilities
  • Ability to bbe patient, understanding and compassionate
