St. Stephen’s Community House is a unique, community-based social service agency that has been serving the needs of Kensington Market and other neighbourhoods in Toronto since 1962. We are dedicated to making our communities stronger, happier and healthier.We offer services for more than 25,200 people a year and address the most pressing issues in our community: hunger, homelessness, unemployment, isolation, conflict, violence, HIV and AIDS,
Programs & Services:
We offer a variety of English language classes in Toronto Downtown West and North York. Currently, we have 12 LINC classes (government-funded Language Instruction to Newcomers to Canada programs) at three locations. LINC levels range from beginner to advanced. As well as our extensive LINC programs, we also offer one ESL class in partnership with Toronto District School Board. Classes include bilingual ESL (Chinese/English) classes.
Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon and evening and can be taken full-time or part-time.
Our organization works to build the capacity of our communities by mobilizing resources and providing supportive social services, for the empowerment of individuals and groups.

English Conversation Group
The English Conversation Group for newcomers meets 3 mornings per week with the goal of providing opportunity for people of from various linguistic backgrounds to come together in an informal environment where they are comfortable speaking English with other people in their community. We talk about anything, as long as it is in English! Sometimes speakers are brought it to talk about specific topics, such as health, stress reduction, etc, and after the presentation the participants talk about what they learned or perhaps what they did not fully understand.
Services are available by appointment for eligible newcomers including those who have recently gained Canadian citizenship, permanent residents, refugees and refugee claimants.
North York Community House is a dynamic neighborhood centre offering innovative programs and services to newcomers & residents, helping build strong, healthy communities.
Programs & Services:
Our Lawrence Square Mall location offers part-time or full-time English language classes for adults (Level 2 – 7) with free on-site childcare.
English Conversation Circles
ECCs offer a comfortable place to practice English conversation skills in an informal group setting with other language learners as well as native English speakers.
Full-time: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm; Level 2 and Levels 3 & 4.
Part-time: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; Level 3, 4 & 5, and Levels 6 & 7.

Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto was founded by a group of Latin American refugees in 1983. For the past 30 years, we’ve been helping immigrant women from all around the world to become part of the wider community. With the help of volunteers and community partners, our friendly, all-female staff provides employment and settlement services, skills development, and language training, completely free of charge. There are also programs for children, including child care for kids between 19 months and 6 years of age.

English Language Program
ELP at Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto provides a supportive environment for women to learn English. There are classes every weekday for ELP levels 1 to 6, including one class for women aged 55 and over.
Students learn how to use English in daily life including banking, shopping, finding a doctor and looking for work. Students also learn about Canadian history, geography, politics and culture.
The program offers workshops on a variety of topics including assertiveness, employment, taxes, housing and parenting skills. Our participants find these skills immensely helpful in their settlement experience.
Prior to registering for classes, prospective students must be assessed for eligibility and language level by the YMCA Language Assessment and Referral Centre (www.ymcagta.org/language)
Description: Our Vision is to facilitate the well-being of diversified communities through social services. Our objective is to assist new immigrants to know more about the social system of Canada and help them to adapt to the Canadian style of living through our counselling services.
Programs & Services:
- To enhance the English Language standard of newcomers so that they can live confidently and independently in the Canadian society.
- To enhance Computer English learning environment so that newcomers can improve their language skills and new technology skills.
Types of Services
- LINC Classes (Level 1 – 5), with free childminding services.
- English as a Second Language Classes (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Level).
- Citizenship Preparation Classes (Beginner Level).
The English School of Canada offers 10 levels of general ESL classes- from very basic to very advanced. Students can choose from a variety of classes, including grammar, conversation, listening, reading, writing, communication, and pronunciation. Students can also choose to study in an ESC Focus Program. These programs include, TOEFL preparation, IELTS Exam preparation, English for Business, English for Academic Purposes (UCTP), Focus on Speaking, Focus on Writing and English for Health Care.
ACCESS is a mid-sized, friendly school with the smallest classes of any language school in Toronto! Because of our small classes, you will get to know many people from other countries around the world. You will also get to know your teachers very well, and they will get to know you too. Our friendly staff and counselors are here to help you if you have any problems or need help with anything. ACCESS is an official TOEFL TESTING CENTRE. Study in our TOEFL iBT Preparation Course, and then take the TOEFL test right at ACCESS.

King George International College offers students a unique and customized English as a Second Language (ESL) program. KGIC’s flexible level structure allows students to target the specific levels of each skill set (grammar, reading and writing, listening and communications, and pronunciation) through a method and curriculum custom-designed by KGIC’s in-house curriculum team.
